The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:8

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Psalm 121

Today's Devotion

Trina received a free ticket to a sold-out event and tucked it into her Bible. Later, her son saw her frantically searching through the pantry. When she explained that she'd lost her Bible, he asked why she was looking in the food cupboard. "Because I've looked everywhere else, and the event starts in thirty minutes," she said. "I don't want to miss one moment." Her son chuckled. "Breathe, Mom," he said. "I think you're suffering from FOMO, the fear of missing out." She laughed. As her son joined the search, Trina's husband entered. "You left this in the car," he said, holding up the Bible. While it's not wrong to enjoy unexpected blessings, big breaks, or once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, a desire for enjoyment can easily turn into anxiety about what we might miss. Yet God, the "Maker of heaven and earth," is our ever-watchful and never-sleeping provider and protector. We don't have to fret over detours, delays, or missed opportunities. God watches over our "coming and going both now and forevermore." In times of affliction, seasons of abundance, and every mundane moment in between, we're always in His line of sight. Trust that nothing God has planned for you will be lost.

Today's Insight

Psalm 121 is part of a collection of songs designed for use during Israel's high holy days. Pilgrims journeyed to Jerusalem for festivals, often traveling on foot from the lowlands—a treacherous climb up Mount Zion. These Songs of Ascents promised God's protection for all who journeyed to His city. Today, we can trust that the God who dwells in heavenly Zion watches over us wherever we are, guiding and protecting our path.

Reflect & Pray

Reflect on how God's constant watchfulness brings peace to your daily life. Consider moments when a closed door or missed opportunity redirected you toward something better than you could have imagined.

Lord, I trust in Your eternal vigilance. Thank You for Your unwavering presence through every season of my life, for guiding my steps and protecting my journey. Help me rest in the assurance that I am always seen and cared for by You.
