Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” Matthew 15:28

"A Canaanite woman's unwavering belief in Jesus demonstrates the kind of great faith that moves His heart. Despite rejection and barriers, she persisted in seeking help for her demon-possessed daughter, ultimately receiving healing through her steadfast trust. Her story reveals that authentic faith transcends cultural boundaries and shows us what it means to anchor our hope entirely in Jesus, regardless of circumstances."

Matthew 15:21-28

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Matthew 15:21-28

Today's Devotion

J.D. witnessed faith-filled women in Eastern Zambia presenting their gospel ministry plan with creativity and conviction—drawing in dirt and holding crumpled paper. Their resourcefulness reflected the kind of faith Jesus values. Like the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28, they demonstrated that great faith isn't about size or circumstances, but about trusting Jesus completely. Whatever need compels you to seek Him today—personal, family, or community—go to Jesus. The object of your faith matters most: Jesus and Jesus alone.

Today's Insight

Jesus' seemingly harsh treatment of the Canaanite woman served a deeper purpose—to reveal His disciples' hardened hearts as they urged Him to send her away. By responding to her faith before them, Jesus demonstrated what genuine trust looks like and contrasted it with the formalism of religious leaders whose hearts were far from God. Her persistence and humility became a powerful lesson: when we fix our eyes on Jesus as the true object of our faith, we can entrust all our cares to Him with confidence.

Reflect & Pray

What does your faith look like in this moment? Consider whether you're running on empty or overflowing with confidence in Jesus. Refueling your trust begins with honest reflection—acknowledging where doubt creeps in and recommitting to Jesus as your source of strength. Take time today to identify one specific area where you need to deepen your reliance on Him, then bring that need directly to Him in prayer.

Lord, strengthen my heart to trust You more deeply. As I face the challenges before me, help me remember the Canaanite woman's persistence and the faith-filled women of Zambia who believed despite limited resources. Teach me to anchor my hope in You alone, to recognize Your provision in every circumstance, and to grow in confidence that You hear my prayers and care for my needs. Transform my doubts into devotion and my fears into faith.
